The Parish Councils at Aldington & Bonnington and Brabourne & Smeeth have investigated the need for a Landscape Protection Policy (LPP) in their respective areas, and comprehensive comments on this issue have been provided in respect of Policy HOU4. However, for the policies as proposed to have effect, amendments are also proposed to policy EMP1.

As currently worded, this proposal does not offer adequate protection to AONBs from inappropriate development; the legislative and national policy requirement for development within AONBs is for proposals to conserve landscape and scenic beauty. This is not adequately covered by the current policy which is for a lesser general requirement for proposals to not significantly damage the landscape.
