We support policy HOU9 because it recognises the need for standalone annexes which are physically separate from the main dwelling to which they relate. The policy text and preamble set out the criteria in which a proposal for a standalone annex would be acceptable, and this is sufficiently flexible to allow proposals to be considered on a site-by-site basis. We support the recognition that annexes that are proposed in conjunction with existing listed dwellings may not be always be sited in an acceptable way due to the nature of the property, but where buildings are being re-used for such purposes (such as traditional agricultural barns) the impact of on the setting of the listed building would be minimal compared with a new build scheme.
