We are now launching the second stage of the Community Governance Review (CGR) to explore the possibility of a town council for Ashford – the only area in the district currently without a town or parish council. Following the stage one public consultation, where the majority favoured the creation of a town council, the borough council has developed some proposals on how these governance arrangements could operate.

We now need your views on these proposals and to check there is still support for the town council being introduced before any final decisions are made. This is your chance to help decide how Ashford is represented in the future.

We encourage you to read all of the information on our webpage before you complete the survey.one

We welcome views from residents, businesses, community organisations and local groups. You can have your say by completing a short survey which is open until 12pm (noon) on Friday 24th April.

As part of the survey, we ask for your postcode so that we can understand whether you live, work or deliver services within the area under review. This information also helps us to see how support or opposition for a town council is balanced by area.

Residents are encouraged to respond online if they can as it saves time and money. Anyone who is unable to respond online can request a paper copy of the questionnaire in the following ways:

Email: corporatepolicy.team@ashford.gov.uk

Write to: Corporate Policy Team, Ashford Borough Council, International House, Dover Place, Ashford, Kent, TN23 1HU

Call: 01233 331111

If you require the questionnaire in a different language, you can select the relevant language at the top right-hand corner of the online questionnaire page. Alternatively email corporatepolicy.team@ashford.gov.uk who will be happy to help arrange a hard copy translation.

We ask that feedback is received by 12pm on Friday 24th April 2026.
