Welcome to this consultation on Ashford Borough Council's Homelessness Strategy.

There is a requirement by the Government for all Local Authorities to have a strategy to prevent and tackle rough sleeping. In order to deliver a successful Rough Sleeping Strategy and Action Plan the Council could not work alone. A partnership approach is the only way that we will be able to ensure successful realisation of our vision, therefore the strategy needs to be owned, supported, and delivered by working closely with our partner agencies.
Ashford Borough Council have completed a full review of our homelessness service to evaluate the current picture of homelessness in the borough. From this, a strategy has been developed which incorporates a comprehensive action plan, which shows clearly:

  • Specifics of each action to be taken.
  • A deadline for when each action is expected to be completed.
  • The resources that will be needed to complete each action.
  • The intended change that accomplishing each action will achieve.

Since April 2018 the Council's duty to prevent and relieve homelessness has placed increased pressure on local housing authorities. In Ashford, this pressure is shown most starkly by the 60% increase in families living in temporary accommodation in the last five years.
