Welcome to this consultation on Ashford Borough Council's Housing Allocations Policy.
Ashford Borough Council is reviewing its Housing Allocations Policy - that sets the rules that determines how social housing is allocated in the borough. We want to hear your views to ensure the updated policy is fair, transparent, and meets the needs of our community.
What is the Housing Allocations Policy?
The Housing Allocations Policy sets out:
Who qualifies to join the housing register
How housing need is assessed and prioritised
How properties are allocated
How we support vulnerable applicants
How we promote sustainable tenancies
The proposed updates aim to improve clarity, ensure fairness, and make the best use of available homes.
Key Areas of Change
We are particularly seeking your views on:
Giving greater priority to applicants with a local connection
Whether those in employment or training should receive additional priority
Reducing priority for applicants with a history of antisocial behaviour
Introducing a minimum period of residence to qualify for housing
Access to safe, secure, and suitable housing is vital for wellbeing. Your feedback will help shape a policy that reflects the needs of our community and ensures fair access to housing for those most in need.
Consultation
We are inviting residents, applicants, stakeholders, and partners to share their views on the proposed changes.
We ask that feedback is received by Friday 1st August 2025.
