Welcome to this consultation on Ashford Borough Council's Town Centre Regeneration

Ashford Borough Council is seeking your views on three proposed projects in the civic quarter: transforming The Tanyard, redeveloping the former Civic Centre, and installing solar canopies at the Stour Centre car park. Together, the schemes aim to deliver new affordable homes, improve public spaces and routes, and increase renewable energy generation.

For more information about these projects, please visit Ashford Borough Council's Town Centre Regeneration Consultation, complete with information and updates
Why this Regeneration Matters

Across the projects, Ashford will benefit from high-quality affordable homes, improved public spaces and walking routes, and greater renewable energy generation to support the borough’s net-zero ambition.

The Tanyard

The former Kent Wool Growers site is proposed to become a new riverside neighbourhood of 160 affordable homes in four apartment buildings (six storeys or fewer). Key elements include restoring the Grade II* Whist House, reopening Tanyard Lane for walking and cycling, creating new public spaces and a riverside path, and improving access between the town centre, station, Civic Park and the Stour Centre.

  • 160 affordable homes across four buildings (six storeys or fewer)
  • Restoration of the Grade II* Whist House
  • New riverside path and improved routes
  • Reopening Tanyard Lane for walking and cycling
  • Improved access between the town centre, station and Civic Park

Civic Centre Redevelopment

The vacant Civic Centre building on Tannery Lane would be converted into 60 affordable homes, with ground-floor office space. The plans also include a kiosk café facing Civic Park, improved amenity space, a parking ratio of 0.4 spaces per home, and a new public art mural on the Stour Centre flank wall.

Have Your Say

We encourage residents, businesses and local organisations to take part in this consultation and help shape the future of Ashford’s town centre.

Please submit your feedback by 17 March 2026.
